allergies
Isn't it funny how your body works? And how randomly it will develop allergies to even more random things?
I have a few allergies: melon and almonds make my tongue and throat swell, and tomatoes make my hands itch (but I can eat them...)
But the weirdest of all is my toothpaste allergy. In fact, it's not even to toothpaste that I'm allergic (aren't you glad) but rather to a chemical commonly found in it called sodium lauryl sulfate.
SLS is highly effective surfactant used in any task requiring the removal of oily stains and residues. For that reason it's found in a lot of cleaning products as well as hygiene product such as tooth paste, shampoo and other foamy things.
Pretty random isn't it? Now here is how I found out that I was allergic to it. I've always had a big problem with canker sores, I would get them all the time. Then, around this time last year, I got the biggest canker sore I had ever had, and it just wound't go away. I tried everything, and still it hung to by inner lower lip like you won't believe it.
So I decided to search the good ol' world wide web and see what I could find. Lo and behold I found out that SLS dries up the skin inside your mouth and the protective layer of the oral tissue, making it more vulnerable to different irritants such as acidic foods.
After reading that, I decided to test it out. So I didn't brush my teeth for a whole week. Just kidding. I just didn't brush it one night, and what do you know, in the morning, the sore was gone!
And that is when I switched over to SLS-free tooth paste. Not an easy taks however, there is only 1 (ONE) toothpaste that doesn't have SLS. And yes, I did check all of them. But since I made the sitch I haven't had a single canker sore!
Not too long ago, I used to work in the English department here at the school. And everyday, I would fill a little jar up with mixed nuts. And everyday there was a certain teacher that would come bay after his classes and grab a hand full of nuts. Until one day when 5 minutes after he grabbed his daily handful of nut he came back sweating, dizzy, with a swollen itchy throat and had to be rushed to the hospital. I guess one day his body just had enough of nuts... ?
So do you have any weird allergies? And random reactions to even more random things?
... I hope you all enjoyed my random shpill. I'm been working this week, and there hasn't been much to do. So today, as I was going out to buy some sls-free toothpaste... I got thinking about all this, and adding to my boredom I thought I would sharemy little toothpaste drama with you all :o). Maybe I'll start blogging about more useful things every once in a while. sounds good? or no good?

Sexta passada o Johan me surpreendeu com meu presente de aniversário (adiantado). Eu fiquei super feliz e super surpresa!!!! Estou querendo a silhouette a muuuuuito tempo!
Mas valeu a espera porque eu adoro surpresas! E o melhor de tudo é que veio mais cedo também! :o)

9 meses de terrorismo!!!
Eu mal posso acreditar que meu picorrucho já está com NOVE MESES. Daqui a três meses ele já vai fazer um aninho!!!! Ele está cada vez mais espertinho, danadinho e alegre. Ele não para um minuto, eu fico exausta só de olhar para ele. Ele é muito bonsinho, brinca super bem, ri para todos, vai com todos e topa tudo. Adora brincar com o que não é brinquedo (tipo esse cabide ai) e com outras crianças.

Pra começar Thominhas aprendeu a engatinhar. Por uns dias ele só army crawled - aquele arrastadinho estilo exercito. Mas agora ele já está engatinhando mesmo. É uma loucura... eu bem que falei para o Johan: Arruma ai a casa porque quando a gente voltar, o Thomas já vai estar engatinhando- dito e feito!!!!
Em termos de comidinha também foi um mês emocionante, principalmente durante a semana que passamos em Utah. Ele provou um monte de coisas nova: farinha láctea, macarrão, animal crackers, melancia, mandarin oranges, queijo e iogurte. Ele também já está comendo sozinho, eu coloco coisinhas que ele pode pegar com os dedinhos na bandeja da cadeirinha alta,e ele pega e come. Eu acho a coisa mais linda ele comendo sozinho - faz um bagunça danada- mas é lindo!!!
E finalmente nasceram os dentinhos do Tho-thomas!!! El está com três dentinhos e o outro de cima está para sair. Ele morde tudo, principalmente a gente! Eu dou bolachinhas para ele e ele já morde. Sinto falta do meu baguelinho, mas ao mesmo tempo, esse sorrizinho tri-dental é irresistivel!
O mais legal do Thomas é que ele topa tudo! E o melhor ainda é que quando ele cansa - ele dorme! Não importa o que está acontecendo. No Karaoke, foi assim,ele cansou e dormiu, lá no meio da bagunça, barulheira e tudo mais ele apagou! E foi assim no parque aquático e também no parque na hora dos fogos! Como eu adoro isso!!!!
Em termos de soninho o Thomas anda meio trocado. O médico disse que é normal nessa fase, eles acordarem e quererem atenção e brincar. E ainda como ele está aprendendo a engatinhar e com os dentinhos nascendo... Mas até que não está tão mal assim. Ele dorme as nove e ai uma hora e meia depois acorda. Ai depois de muito esforço ele volta a dormir, e depois dorme até as 6,acorda, mama e ai dorme até as 9. Mas o médico disse que é para eu deixar ele chorar...vamos ver se eu consigo!
Ele anda muito espertinho. Presta atenção em tudo. É tão engraçadinho. Agora ele está aprendendo a dar Tchausinho e também a estralar a lingua. É muito engraçado quando ele estrala a linguinha, ele fica todo concentrado praticando!Esse meu mulequinho é lindo demais e está crescendo rápido demais!!!

Happy 4th
Feliz 4 de Julho pra todo mundo! Hoje foi um dia muito divertido e muito
A noite fomos no campo na frente do templo de Provo assistir ao show de fogos... domorou mas valeu a pena. Foi muito bonito e o Thomas ficou maravilhado! Não tirava o olho dos fogo.
Mas antes, passamos o dia no Seven Peaks. Foi MUITO legal! Nadamos muito, brincamos muito e eu queimei minhas costas muito... e agora está ardento - muito.
Mas foi legal, eu, a Jenny e a Brenda tentamos ir nesse brinqueditchos ai, mas quando chegamos lá em cima, bateu o medo e desistimos. Mas ai depois eu e a Jenny voltamos com o Jack e fomos. GENTE DO CÉU - que medo. Eu sai do negócio - sem brincadeira- tremendo. A gente levanta um tantão do chão nessa boia, e quase tocamos na outra ponta da rampa. É muita adrenalina... muita. Mas foi divertido - nunca mais volto naquele brinquedo - mas foi legal!
Todo mundo passando protetor solar! O dia estava muito quente - felizmente a Pidi levou Tear Free sunblock então a turma se empolgou com o spray
TAMBÉM ESSA SEMANA...
Sexta anoite fomos no Central do Brasil comer pizza e cantar no Karaoke. Foi MUITO divertido. Cantamos muito e rimos muito também! Bom demais reunir essa turminha divertida e fazer bagunça!
Na quinta o meu primo Spencer recebeu o chamado dele! Ele foi chamado para missa Taipei Taiwan!!! Ficamos todos SUPER surpresos e muito felizes. Ele então nem se conta porque o sonho dele era ir para a Asia servir missão.
E na quarta eu e Thominhas fomos visitar as amiguinhas Aubrey e Naomi, filinhas dos nossos amigos Glen & Patty. Foi muito legal rever essas bontininhas e conversar com a Patty. O Thomas também adorou brincar com elas e elas foram uma gracinha com ele.
Eu acho lindo como o Thominhas fica feliz quando ve outras crianças, ele ri, se agita e fala todo feliz e animadinho!
Mas foi isso ai... essas semana foi muito agitada e bem divertida. Pena que acabou! Amanha estamos voltando para Rexburg e ao nosso real life... ai ai...
