Bon Appétit!

I watched Julie and Julia last week and have ever since been aching to cook more. So I've been fighting my current arch enemy, aka Monsieur Nausea, and trying to make yummy things.
Anyway, another thing I've been aching for since watching Julie and Julia is bruschetta... you know the part where she's frying up bread and cutting up juicy ripe roma tomatoes... YUM!

So, yesterday I made this:

All I can say is: sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!

Recipe at my recipe blog, I dare you to try it, you will not regret it!

So here is what I came up with, very easy and extremely tasty!

For the tomatoes:

4 ripe roma tomatoes
1/2 c. basil leaves
1 tbs balsamic vinager
2 tbs olive oil
salt to taste

Chop the tomatoes and the basil leaves, mix all the ingredients and let it stand.

For the bread:

2 small baguettes, or 1 regular size one
2 cups (+/-) olive oil
8-10 garlic cloves

Cut the baguette into 1 inch slices.
In a large pan heat up the olive oil. Chop up the garlic and add it to the hot oil. Let the garlic cook until it's golden brown.
Remove the garlic and add the bread slices. the bread really brown before you turn it over.

Right before serving top each slice with a heaping serving of the tomatoes and sprinkle from freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Be sure always repeat the frying garlic in the oil process with each batch of bread that you make in the pan. I ended up making two batches, one with each small baguette. With each batch I use about a cup of olive oil and 4 garlic cloves.

But going back to the movie. I totally LOVED the movie. It's been a long long long time since I liked a movie as much as I liked this one. I identified with not only Julie but with Julia too. I was reminded of how much I love food, eating it and making it. So I decided to get back to it, to not be lazy and scared of making messes of getting something wrong. I also decided to be more artistic about my cooking, to really make it pretty and presentable and allow it to be another creative outlet. And finally to blog more about it and one day, who knows, maybe even visit Julia Child's kitchen... that would be way fun.

For if there is one thing we agree on is that "With enough butter, anything is good."

16 Months

hi
papa (comida)
vivo (livro)
peixe
olho
banho
sesus (Jesus)
neve
céu
batata (qualquer fruta)
piiiis (please)
ai ai ai
meia
bola
abo (acabou)
ade (cade)
to (achou)
mai (mais e tb faz o sinal pra mais)
fecha
desce
nana (dormir)

crazy hair

Thomas has the craziest hair in the mornings. And lately this crazy hair will last all day. No matter what I do, it's doesn't cooperate... so I've just given up. I'm trying to be strong and let it grow and then cut it like this:

Wouldn't he look way cute?!
Let's see how long I last with the crazy-ness of his hair until then though....

Brazil!

One post a day - wow! I'm on a roll!!!
I hope I didn't jinx it.

Here are a few more pictures from Brazil. And a very quick summary of what happened/what we did in SP.
Did lots of fun girly things with my mom and sister like shopping, talking, and getting our nails done.
Visited my dear dear bff Emilia who is also pregnant.
Thomas started walking - FINALLY. On his 15 month birthday mark (Jan. 08).
Thomas got his first real hair cut.
Ate lots of good things.
Wish I had eaten lots of other good things.
Wish I could have eaten many other good things.
Went to a Japanese restaurant with Aline and Chris and the Kids. Ate Sushi. Got home and spent the entire night wishing I had no had eaten Sushi. But it was still really nice and fun to see them.
Went to the doctor and found out that each baby has their own gestational sack, which is good, and was told that we are probably having girls. 70% chance! yay!
Enjoyed the sun, the warmth and most of all the humidity.
Enjoyed the rain, thunder storms and amazing lightning storms.
Had sleepovers with my sister.
Watched Thomas grow, learn and play.
Enjoyed being taken care of, being spoiled and pampered by my mommy.

Came back and wished I had never left, because I don't plan on making this trip again, especially alone (with 3 kids - no way) any time soon.

Fim.

No belly button.

Thomas has this crazy obsession with belly buttons. His, and everyone else's
So today I was watching veggie tales videos with him and came across this video. I love Veggie Tales, it cracks me up, especially the Silly Songs with Larry. But this one has got to be the best one yet.

btw: I updated the blog with a post on Thomas' birthday party (which I realized yesterday that I had never done). Since this is like my journal sort of thing, the party was something I had to include. So if you are interested in seeing some/more pictures of the party here is the direct link to the post, if not, it's ok, just watch the video. It's totally worth it.

1-2-3-4-5

There is so much that I need to write about on here that I would always get extremely overwhelmed at the thought catching up on everything on here and so... I just didn't!

But today I woke up determined to just write something and get this thing going again.

So the big news is... we are getting ready for not one, but TWO babies.

On Dec. 15, two days before we left for Brazil we went in for my first appointment (we had know that I was pregnant for 3 weeks already.)

After starting the ultrasound, the Midwife was taking a long time to say anything. She just kept looking and looking and looking closer and not saying anything. Johan was pretty quiet too and I was starting to wonder if she was even seeing anything. That's when Johan asked:

"Is that what I think it is?"
and Helen says "Yup, do you want to tell her or do you want me to?"

With a big question mark over my head I ask "What?!"

And as she turns the monitor around, she doesn't even have to say anything, I see them.

"You're having twins!"

I could barely believe it. Never in a millions years did I ever - EVER - expected to expect twins! But here we are, after many days of pure shock, yes, I was in shock and still am a little, we are trying to get back on our feet and figure out what to do.

We are very excited, and scared, but still very excited. The babies are identical, and we know this because they are sharing one placenta. Because they are sharing this one placenta there are a lot of risks involved, which I won't get into right now.

For now, we are doing well, I'm doing better, and the babies are doing great. I go in for my next appointment in 3 weeks and I can't wait to see my little bitty babies again.

I promise to post Brazil pictures soon and post about everything else that's been going on.

Cheerios!

Eu sei... Eu sei...

Eu sei: estou sumida.

It's almost over!

E agora, dir-lhes-ei adeus pois tenho mil e duzentas coisas pra fazer ainda hoje... e ja sao 11:50! Bleh... wish me luck!
